08 Augustus 2012 | Thailand, Bangkok

On August the second I arrived at the Airport at 6 p.m. Lucky me there was Justin from Amarin Mansion to pick me up. After a 30 minutes ride through the city (which looked amazing) I arrived at my final destination. From the outside Amarin Mansion looks great, and from the inside even better. The rooms are like European standards: big, clean, king-size bed, television, etc.

After a quick look around I decided that it was time to get something to eat. Imagine yourself in an totally new city on the other side of the world getting something to eat. Where would you go? Exactly, to Mc Donalds. So together with my new friend from Switzerland I went to Khao San Road and looked for a Mc Donalds and got myself a Big Mac. When we were done eating it was time to see something of Khao San Road.
At about 11 p.m. it was time to experience my first ‘’tuk tuk’’ ride. We got in the back of this sort of open cab and paid the driver 80 baht (about 2 euro’s) and he took us to Amarin.

My first night at Amarin was good. I slept for about 12 hours because of the jetleg, and went with some German friends out to get breakfast. After breakfast, in was time for some shopping in one big ass shopping mall.
Later that day, the whole Amarin Mansion crew went out for a bit of swimming at the Sivalai place. Sivalai is another place where a lot of exchange students are staying for the semester. After a couple of hours of swimming we returned back to the good old Amarin by ‘’Tuk Tuk’’, the ride was again scary as hell, but we survived it! Then we ordered some food, went to the rooftop of Amarin and ate and drink beers with the whole crew.

Getting up early to move my stuff to a new and bigger room, this time with a kitchen. After that we went with 5 cabs to one of the biggest markets on the planet. The Chatuckhak market in Bangkok counts as many as 9000 shops. It’s a bit like a big bazar. You can buy everything at this place, and taste some of the finest Thai food and drinks. I had my first coconut, and emptied in in a matter of seconds! I also had by first Fanta in Thailand, and I drunk it like Zach Galifianakis in the Hangover 2, drinking Fanta out of a plastic bag! After the market is was time to pimp my room a little bit, I bought some bed sheets, towels, cleaning stuff at Tesco. Since we were there anyway, me and a French friend decided to buy football shoes + a football. In the evening we went out for the first time in Bangkok. The taxi drivers dropped us off at Khaosan road and we walked for a little bit. Somewhere near the end of the street the clubs appear. The very original name of the club we went is ‘’the club’’. This place was nice, lots of Europeans/ Americans, and good music.

On Sunday the fifth of August we went to the beach. Hua Hin is it called. In was amazing! I never saw beaches like this, white sand, deep blue water (which was pretty warm) and a cool breeze. This place was so different from the buzzy Bangkok! We stayed there the entire day and had dinner at an Mexican restaurant. Although if felt sick the entire day this adventurous day was awesome!

In the following days we went shopping a lot, for example to the MBK shopping mall. It was here that I lost my cellphone! Although the people from MBK shopping mall were very helpful, we could not find it.

On Wednesday the eighth of August I went to the Thammasat University for the first time. I bought the last piece of my beautiful uniform and had a look around at the peaceful campus.

    Your Co-founder And Sponsor:

    Hi there,

Well well, you've been adding quite some new expierences to your life-story during the last week.
I sure hope your cellphone got lost or stolen just after you made your new phone database backup,
if not you might lose some contacts.

I guess the beer drinking event on the roof of your mansion and the beach-trip will certainly be the
Thai summits of joy so far. If you travel bij Tuk-Tuk frequently, your mother advises you to change
your underwear after finishing the ride, this will make you visit the laundry less often.
(Sorry for this public advice, hihihi)

Anyway good luck to you at the start of the new semester on Thammasat Un.

    Dad
